The Most Luxurious Trains in the World

These offer unique experiences to indulge those people who want to be pampered but also see the wild side of Africa from a totally different perspective. These will appeal to those who have the budget and the time to spend these truly amazing experiences. These trains provide accommodation of the highest luxury. There are a number of route options enabling you to travel around much of Southern Africa in style. The most popular route for both Rovos Rail and The Blue Train is Pretoria to Cape Town. Both operators offer occasional trips along The Garden Route between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth and from Pretoria to Durban. The problems in Zimbabwe have reduced the schedule to Victoria Falls provided by Rovos Rail who also run an annual journey to Dar es Salaam via the falls. Rovos Rail also combines a rail trip from Pretoria to Polokwane (Pietersburg) via the area adjacent to the Kruger Park. They then provide an air transfer with vintage, beautifully restored aircraft to Victoria Falls. A service is also provided from Pretoria to Windhoek in Namibia. The age of steam has, sadly, long passed in South Africa but Rovos Rail is a luxurious train, hauled initially by steam locomotive. From this you will be able to see Africa from a different perspective. This can extend up to Tanzania via the Victoria Falls or to Windhoek in Namibia.

Towns  Pretoria, Cape Town, George, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Windhoek, Kimberley, Dar Es Salaam Villages Historic Matjiesfontein, Hoedspruit, Upington and Oudtshoorn are just some of the places you can visit on these trips.

Special Interests   A visit to Kimberley’s historic centre and ‘The Big Hole’. On the trip to Hoedspruit game drives are arranged into the Kapama Reserve.

Rovos Rail

This is true luxury in a grand style harking back to the grace of the age of steam. Although the coaches are vintage, they have been lovingly and lavishly restored providing one of the most luxurious experiences you will find anywhere in the world.

Blue Rail

This is arguably the most famous train in the world comparing with other luxurious trains such as the Orient Express. This is a very different experience to Rovos Rail. The train and the coaches are modern and lack for nothing in terms of modern comforts.
