You fly direct to Cape Town and spend 4 nights at Glen Avon Lodge which is part of 'The Good Cooks of South Africa and their Country Houses' Collection. Situated in the Tokai area, this is perfectly situated for the city centre (15 minutes) and the Cape Peninsula.
Then drive 40 minutes to Wellington in the Winelands and spend two night at Diemersfontein Country House which is also an excellent winery with a renowned restaurant. Your next two nights will be spent in historic Swellendam at The Hideaway where you will be able to drive to southernmost point of Africa and enjoy the great local restaurants.
This is followed by a 4 hour trip inland across the interesting Little Karoo to The Retreat at Groenfontein. Here you will step back in time but enjoy old fashioned hospitality and wonderful food (dinner is included in the price). This is a great location from which to hike into the Swartberg Mountains, explore the nearby Cango Caves or visit an Ostrich Farm.
After a 2 1/2 hour drive you will arrive at Fynbos Ridge which is a wonderful house set in a Private Nature Reserve just 10 minutes' drive from the spectacular beaches at Plettenberg Bay. You will spend three nights here in the midst of the Garden Route.
The next stage of your journey is a 3 1/2 hour drive throught the Tsitsikamma Forest to Zuurberg Mountain Inn. This is a 150 year old Inn near one of the entrances to the Addo National Park. This is malaria free and over the three days you stay here you will see plenty of game, including the'Big Five'. Accommodation here is quoted on a Dinner, Bed & Breakfast basis and includes two game drives each day.
You will then drive to Port Elizabeth Airport (1 hour) and catch a flight to Johannesburg where you will be transferred from the airport to stay in the beautiful Toadbury Hall for two nights. A guide can be arranged to take you to the main places of interest nearby in The Cradle of Humankind The package aswell as Pretoria and Johannesburg. |
